Israeli military strikes in Gaza have killed at least six people, including Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah and a child, according to Palestinian health officials and rescue workers.
Al Jazeera confirmed that Ahmed Wishah was killed in a strike targeting a residential area in central Gaza. The media organization condemned the incident and stated that the killing of journalists represents a serious threat to press freedom.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Wishah was associated with Hamas’ military wing and alleged that he had been involved in sniper operations targeting Israeli forces. The IDF said he had participated in planning attacks but did not provide public evidence.
According to local officials, two additional people were killed in the same strike on a home in the Bureij refugee camp. Israeli authorities also claimed that those victims had links to Hamas.
In another overnight strike in Gaza City’s Sabra area, four members of a family were killed, including children, according to rescue teams and medical officials. Relatives stated that the victims were civilians and were not involved with any armed groups.
The attacks have raised further concerns about the future of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Both sides have accused each other of violating the deal, which was intended to reduce violence and increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Aid organizations have warned that many residents in Gaza continue to face difficult conditions, including shortages of shelter, clean water, healthcare services, and essential supplies.
The conflict began after the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, which resulted in around 1,200 deaths and the capture of hostages. Since then, Israeli military operations in Gaza have caused widespread destruction and a large number of casualties, according to Gaza health authorities.
International efforts are continuing to maintain the ceasefire, provide humanitarian support, and address the future governance and security situation in Gaza.
"Whether the agreements signed today translate into meaningful change remains an open question."
